Query Update: I’ve received one form rejection from the new batch. I also submitted to the agent who asked for revisions. (Please God let her love it.)
I ran into another writer friend/acquaintance at the store yesterday. (I’m starting to think Colorado is a hotbed of writers.) She writes commercial fiction and has an agent, BUT hasn’t sold either of her two books. According to her, the person at the publishing house can only introduce one or two debut authors for the year. So, they have to LOVE your book enough to take the chance that nothing else is going to come in and blow them away. I had an inkling that it was competitive, but I had no idea. It’s no wonder that agents have to be selective when tackling the slush pile.
I continue to learn new things everyday about this business, what about you?
I found your blog by accident and just spent the last 30 minutes reading every one of your posts. You have a great way of communicating – I’m sure your novel will be fantastic when it gets published.
Thank you.
