50 Shades of Grey has sold 31 million copies in English!! I’ve asked my friends and acquaintances who have read it, if it is well written and not one person has said yes. So what’s the attraction? The sex? The story? Not one person has been able to narrow it down. The most common answer I receive is “I just liked it”. I even asked my husband’s aunt who was a high school English teacher and principal and she couldn’t give me definitive answer. So, if a book isn’t well written and nobody can really identify why they like it, but it has sold 31 million copies, then how can agent/editors/publishers know what will be well received?

What do you think? Is the publishing world a crapshoot?
