I thought that today, I would share a writing tip I learned from the Pikes Peak Writer’s Conference. Agent Hannah Bowman taught a seminar on plot structure and characters. By far, it was my fave because I learned so much in a logical manner about plotting, but she shared something no other presenter touched on. How to implement a twist into a plot.
Here is her answer.
A character makes an assumption and the writer builds up the misconception/misdirection until the reveal. Classic example is when Luke Skywalker finds out his sister is Leah or Darth Vader is his dad.
Yep, it’s that simple.
