Recently, I read a great manuscript with a compelling and fascinating premise, but I hated, HATED, the main character. She was unlikeable for a variety of reasons, but most of all because she was selfish.  Now, I love stories with antiheroes, but they have to have something redeeming and this character had nothing. I mean nothing about her that made her likeable. Unfortunately, I recommended a rejection to my agent and we sent the unlucky author a pass. Soon thereafter, I was reading a blog post by Michelle Hauck that discussed this very thing with writers. It’s a great piece and I highly recommend it.
