Last weekend, my family and I went downtown to the parade of lights. We did it last year and loved it so much we decided to make it a new tradition. We make it a big deal. First we go to a nice restaurant, one we wouldn’t normally take the kids, and eat dinner. This year we went to D Bar.   A fantastic place that not only serves the most delicious desserts, but also some yummy savory fare as well. I have so many favorites, but my fav on Friday night was the churros. Now, some of you might scoff at this and think that these are only for amusement parks, but I’d tell you, you have to go there and try them. Believe me when I tell you that there is nothing as heavenly, melt-in-your-mouth goodness than these. To be fair, my sister-in-law and brother-in-law work there as cooks/baker, but I’d still think the food is good whether they were there or not. An added bonus is that we got to visit with them too.

Afterward, we went to our hotel. We were running a bit late due to visiting with the aforementioned family and I was afraid that we’d get blocked off before we made it to our destination, but luck was on our side. However, we were late to getting a spot this year and ended up splitting up with the kids sitting on the curb and us standing in the back, behind some people. To avoid this next year we plan on getting there earlier and getting takeout instead.
The parade rocked this year, way better than last year. There were more floats, marching bands, and even a couple of big balloons that reminded me of the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving parade.  It ended with a float of Santa and all of the kids cheered, even the thirteen year old. It was a magical night that we topped off with a late night swim in the hotel pool before heading to bed. We had so much fun that I’m already looking forward to doing this next year.

What traditions do you have for the holidays?
