Our family does its own version of Elf On The Shelf with our own little elf we named Charlie. Charlie is a mischievous bugger who wanders all over the house, hiding in the strangest places. I haven’t read the book, but my children tell me he does pranks in addition to reporting to Santa. However, our Charlie the Elf does not. The first year he appeared, my oldest adored him and the younger two were terrified. The boy told me he was creepy. So instead of pulling pranks, our elf reports to Santa and just wanders all over the place.
Every morning at six, the younger two get up and the first thing they do is search for Charlie. It’s fun to listen to them running all over the house, except for the one day that Charlie hid in our room. When the kids couldn’t find him, they barged into our room and asked to turn on the light. That wasn’t so fun. So, thankfully, Charile hasn’t returned. This year he’s hid in a variety of places like the blinds, the dolly bed, the barbie house, the Star Wars ship, a huge chair, and the garland on the piano.
He’ll continue to move until Christmas morning when he finally gets to rest in the Christmas Tree until he’s put away for another year.
Do you have an Elf and if so what does he do?
